Ignore the Critics - Enjoy

You should, first and foremost, ignore the critics who said this film was c*&p. Yes, it is a flawed, hugely and probably overly expensive, long, and not to say slightly indulgent film, but it is also an immense amount of fun and thanks to a disappointing box-office take of less than $90Million in the U.S., you are unlikely to see a western on this scale ever again. Therefore, you should watch ‘The Lone Ranger’ and make up your own mind. Less than £10 for the Blu-Ray version of this $215Million film is a bargain. ‘The Lone Ranger’ is pure Jerry Bruckheimer and I mean that as a huge compliment. It is a big budget, action packed and on many occasions, very funny film, the sort of film he has successfully produced for the last 20+ years. The attention to detail is stunning and you only need look at the incredible action sequences with the trains at the beginning and end to understand why the film was so hugely expensive. At the very least, this should have earned ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ type box-office takings, but I assume the negative criticism in the U.S. damaged this film. ‘The Lone Ranger’ never set out to win Oscars, but instead give the cinema goer two-and-a-half hours of big budget entertainment, Jerry Bruckheimer style and that it does brilliantly. As you would expect, the picture and sound quality of the Blu-Ray version are top notch and whilst a commentary from Gore Verbinski and Jerry Bruckheimer would have been welcome, at least you get to see some behind the scenes footage. Don’t just take it from me, even Quentin Tarantino thought the film good enough to be in his top ten of 2013.
